Publication history

Mark Twain Day by Day: An Annotated Chronology of the Life of Samuel L. Clemens is a four-volume reference work compiled by David H. Fears and published by Horizon Micro Publishing, LLC, of Banks, Oregon. The volumes appeared in print between 2008 and 2014 and together document the life of Samuel L. Clemens from his birth in 1835 to his death in 1910, comprising more than 10,000 annotations.[1]

The four volumes were issued as follows:

  • Volume I (1835–1885) — first published in 2008 (ISBN 978-0-9714868-2-9), with a revised edition printed in 2013–2014.[2]
  • Volume II (1886–1896) — 2009.
  • Volume III (1897–1904) — 2011.
  • Volume IV (1905–1910) — 2013.[3]

Because the volumes were produced in small print runs, they have become scarce and command high prices on the secondary market. The work has since been made available in digital form, hosted as PDFs by the Center for Mark Twain Studies, and it serves as the basis for the present Digital Mark Twain Day by Day project.[4]
