Coporate Bodies Lists

Corporate bodies

Corporate Bodiesis one of those awkward terms that describes something we know well (all those things in our life that are made up of a number of people) for which we do not have one good term. Corporate body is librarian shorthand for "any named group that acts as one" — borrowing the legal notion of a body corporate (a group personified as a single entity) while deliberately dropping the requirement that it be a legally incorporated business. It's the umbrella term that lets a business, a government agency, a church, a conference, and a one-off festival all be handled the same way: as a collective author and subject in the catalogue.

Overview

Each Individual Corporate Bodies Page documents a single organization, business, institution, or other collective entity mentioned in Fear's writing, standardized into a consistent schema so that corporate bodies can be searched and cross-referenced across the Fear Project. Every page is built from three core components, described below.

1. Basic Info

Full Name & Location The corporate body's name together with its city/town and state or country — e.g. "Palace Hotel, San Francisco, California".
Description Descriptive text taken verbatim as it appears in Fear, preserving his original wording and spelling.

2. Type

Every corporate body is tagged with one or more of the following controlled terms describing what kind of entity it is:

  • Hospitality/Commercial
  • Association/Society
  • Publishing/Media
  • Financial
  • Educational
  • Theater/Performance
  • Religious
  • Transportation

3. Alphabetical Index

Two companion indexes support navigation across all corporate body pages:

Complete List
Every corporate body mentioned in Fear, listed alphabetically from A to Z, linking out to its individual page.
Cross-Referenced Index
The same list of corporate bodies, cross-referenced by type and by the people and places with which they are associated.

Note: A corporate body may carry multiple Type tags (e.g. an entity that is both Publishing/Media and Association/Society). Description text should be transcribed exactly as written by Fear, including archaic spelling or organizational names that differ from modern usage.
